Solution to doctor shortage overlooked by Federal Government

By Tony Crook, on August 19th, 2010

The Nationals’ candidate for O’Connor, Tony Crook has criticised the Federal Government for failing to address the doctor shortage in regional Australia.

Mr Crook said while he was focused on long-term solutions to deliver better regional health outcomes, allowing more overseas trained doctors to practice in country areas could help ensure people had access to doctors in the short-term.

“Many foreign trained doctors are living in Australia and unable to work due to bureaucratic red tape,” Mr Crook said.

“These doctors are trained to a very high standard, yet the Australian Medical Council only conducts four assessment days a year.

“This allows a maximum of 144 additional doctors to enter the system every 12 months.” Continue reading Solution to doctor shortage overlooked by Federal Government

“If I win the balance of power The Nationals plan will guarantee regional WA gets a fair share of this infrastructure spending,” Mr Crook said. Continue reading Extending gas pipeline in regional WA more important than Sydney rail
